Scenery

The original scenery was produced by the Peter Clausen Studio of Minneapolis for the grand sum of $1500. According to the original invoice, the Tainter received:
  • Drops
    • Horizon
    • Cut Wood
    • Rocky Pass
    • Garden
    • Landscape
  • Flats
    • Street (ancient) (6 wings)
    • Kitchen (2 door, 6 wings)
    • Plain Chamber (2 door, 6 wings)
    • Fancy (Center door, 6 wings)
    • King's Palace (6 wings)
    • Gothic Center Door Chamber (6 wings)
    • Reception Center Door Chamber (2 wings)
    • Prison (2 door, 6 wings)
    • Dark Wood (6 wings)

In addition, there were cut-out statues, foliage, etc. Although the Clausen invoice was for $1500, the Tainter records show that an additional $225 was spent, indicating extra pieces were purchased. What pieces are "original" is, therefore, somewhat uncertain. As two additional opera houses and movie theaters in Menomonie closed, the Memorial acquired their remaining scenic items. The images are broken up into two groups:
